Cannot pick up my train ticket!
Comments
-
I've just booked tickets via thetrainline and even though I had to pick a station to collect from my booking confirmation states "a self service ticket machine at any one of over 1000 stations" and that "any debit or credit card can be used to activate the machine" as long as you have your booking reference number.GC: £40 a week. Sticking to my budget, but never remembering to post in the relevant thread.
Probably buying toiletries that I don't need, as I can't resist a "bargain."

Thanks to this thread I can now confirm that any card can be used to collect from the machines at Norwich station0

I regularly use train tickets booked via a travel agent for work, I believe that these are paid for by the agent and then billed to my employer. I then pick these up using my card.
I suggest that if you by via at agent (eg Red Spotted Hanky) your card is not exposed to the rail company and so can not be checked against their records, so there is scope for using a wider range of cards. Next time I will try my clubcard and see if it works.
On the other hand if you book direct they have your card details and can enforce the policy0 -

See above the trainline are an agent and don't pass your card details the tin company.0 -
Guessing that wont work as by default it will have been the departure station selected for pick up.
The only solution would be to have friends debit card IMO, no point in OP getting worked up about selecting wrong option though.
The last poster has an alternative soloution, no idea if it works though
No.
Although they ask you to select a station to collect your tickets, you can usually pick them up from ANY fast-ticket machine at any station.0 -
But the suggestion was made that it depends to some extent where you bought the tickets from.
Who did you buy your tickets from?
Redspottedhanky but the employee at rail station employee who was fixing the machine next to the one I used said it didn't matter, they work with any card, he didn't ask where I purchasedVoyager2002 wrote: »No.

The machines don't accept any card unless specified on the booking. Many websites when booking will specifically tell you that you need to present the cc used when picking up the tickets, the amount of angry people we get who when picking up their tickets find they are unable to do so as they neglected to bring the right card.
From this thread Ive told people to use red spotted hanky esp when a friend is buying the ticket on behalf of another. But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more0
