Cannot pick up my train ticket!
Comments

Yes, I am saying that regardless of the station specified at purchase time, the tickets can be collected at any machine capable of doing so.
It most certainly is.
Not sure why it didn't occur to me at the time of my earlier post, but that is the point of discussion forums, isn't it?
I didn't know that, interesting to know as my son is using trains quite a lot at mo from UNI0 -

Greater Anglia also confirm it:Which stations offer self-service ticket collection?
You don't need to pick up your tickets from the station you selected when making a booking - You can collect from an enabled machine at any one of the 1000 stations in the list below.
The list of available stations are available below:<drop down list of stations>
Why is the self-service ticket machine at my station not listed?
Not all self-service ticket machines are linked up to the national network for collection of pre-purchased tickets. Any machines at stations that are not listed are simply terminals to buy tickets.
Please carry the debit/credit card that was used to purchase the ticket along with the Ticket Collection Reference.0 -
Any machine at any station should let you collect the tickets with any card.
And in the unlikely event it doesn't, just take the reference to the manned ticket window and collect them from there.
It doesn't matter that the card used to buy is different, even a different name.0 -

Hmmm... are you sure about that?
Certainly used to be the case, but I believe they tightened up on that some time ago due to fraudulent activity, predominantly in Manchester I believe.
Have you tried it recently?
My understanding is that it is technically possible for the ticket seller to set things up to allow 'any card collection'.
Apparently they can do that on request if say the original card is lost, but that is extremely unlikely to happen these days.0 -

wealdroam is correct. You can not collect tickets if the card/name is different unless the purchaser of the ticket specifies on booking.
you can collect tickets from any machine. The best idea is for the friend to collect the tickets and post as it has been said, otherwise the friend could call and change the the name and the credit card details to to the poster and they could then collect the tickets. But if ever I stray from the path I follow

I have been buying tickets using RedSpottedHanky, which gives you no option to allow collection by a different person, and clearly states the following on their website:Can someone else collect my tickets from the Self service ticket machine?
Yes, as long as they have access to the credit/debit card made to purchase the tickets and the 8 character reference shown on your email confirmation. The tickets cannot be issued without these.
However, I have experimented with collecting my tickets using different debit cards, my Tesco clubcard, my Cineworld card, and I can assure you that it doesn't matter which card I use - it just asks me for the reference number and then gives me my tickets. This is from the Fastticket machines at Birmingham New Street, which is managed by Network Rail.
Again, this might not work for different combinations of ticketing website / train station operator. But I have never heard of anyone being refused their tickets from a FastTicket machine because they've used a different card to the one they purchased them with.0 -
When I collected some train tickets I had purchased online from my local London Midland ticket office, I had to provide the card used to purchase the tickets.
It is quite clear on the Virgin Trains website that you can't collect your tickets unless you have the card you used to pay for the tickets.
I was asked to confirm my name and journey details and also had to sign for the tickets.
I wasn't asked for the booking reference.Attempting to make £2021 in 20210 -

This whole thread has been discussing how to get pre-purchased tickets from a self-service ticket machine.0 -
Only because the self service machine was out of order.
You can't use any old credit/debit card to print out tickets from LM machines. I used the incorrect card a few months back and my bookings were not available on the system.
I'll ask at about using any old cards in the machines at Birmingham New Street when I am there tomorrow.Attempting to make £2021 in 20210 -

Im very surprised to hear that. I work at Bham new street at the fast ticket machines and it is a common problem that people with different credit cards are unable to collect their tickets even if they have the reference. I know as well that the the ticket staff behind the counter will refuse to release the tickets if the credit card used in the booking is not available.
Maybe its a gitch in the booking with redspottedhanky but I have dealt with many disappointed and angry travellers who have had to buy new tickets on the day;But if ever I stray from the path I follow
