I am begining to wonder if banks are being truthful with claimants when they claim for ppi. The reason i ask this is my wife and i both claimed from the bank of Scotland 18 months ago, filling a form in that was on there website, thinking they,d take all loans into consideration,as we both got a print out from bos for all loans/credit/cars etc we had with them.
We did get money back from 3-4 loans and thought that was the end of it, then a few months back a company contacted us saying they could claim ppi back, thinking we had nothing to lose(no win no fee) we filled the forms in ,not knowing any loan numbers etc we just put down loan firms/banks we could remember.Yesterday we got a letter from both the firm and BOS saying we were getting money back from miselling of ppi, surely the BOS should of investigated this loan when we originally applied?

No. You complained about the way in which a PPI policy was sold to you with a different loan. They investigate the complaint you've made, not one you haven't.0 -
but we sent a print out of all loans + credit cards we have had with BOS from day 1 so all of them should of been looked at on the letter sentInsider101 wrote: »No. You complained about the way in which a PPI policy was sold to you with a different loan. Did you complain about the loan that is now resulting in redress?
If so, this would indicate that you suffered a rejection on the previous complaint. Why did you not follow up the rejection earlier?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). It doesn't work like that. If you are complaining about the way in which a product was sold to you, that is supposed to be based on your specific and genuine recollections from the time of that particular sale. If you filled in the FOS questionnaire then it would have asked when you took the credit, what you borrowed it for etc... The answers would help them identify the product in question.
If you wanted to complain about more than one sale then you should have sent separate letters/questionnaires for each as it would have been a different person, time, place and set of circumstances.0 -
It depends on the circumstances.
If the loans are unrelated, then I do not think that the lender has done anything wrong here. However if they were part of a chain of loans which refinanced each other, then there is an obligation under the DISP rules to consider other loans.0 -
I agree the OP did not follow the agreed complaints procedure, simply asking the Bank to consider all loan listed on a spreadsheet. If the loans are unrelated, then I do not think that the lender has done anything wrong here.
Still, it's odd that the Bank chose to consider only some...0 -

They were probably all the ones that were part of a consolidated chain. They won't all have been as the OP refers to credit cards as well. You get some right chancers trying "one size fits all" complaints and they are so easy to tell apart from the genuine ones.0
