Any idea why?

Because around about there if I'm not mistaken there's a manufacture date, which will also give them information as to which series the console is. (Makes a difference with regards to certain components)
Plus all the other things that have already been mentioned.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
I see, yes thats the only option then.
Well, my son has just got home from work and doesn't understand why I am anxious.
The details he has given on his xbox account are already made up / false.
Wrong date of birth, wrong/incomplete name.
His friends list was wiped as were any messages that were sent and received.
No cc details and no space for address or phone number.
He still has 6 month of xbox live left on the account- I will see if he wants to get it refunded but I doubt he will bother.
thanks for the help

Looks like hes covered all bases then, re the 6 months of Live, id leave it as its been sold ( was the buyer expecting to have use of 6 months Xbox Live )0 -

It wasn't advertised (not allowed on Gumtree) but was offered once the buyer arrived at our house.
Naturally he was happy to accept it.
If my son wants a refund for the xbox live, it will be me doing all the 'leg work' for him. So I will mention it and leave the rest up to him, I think.
Thanks for all the help and support.

Login to Xbox live, there is a part which shows authorised consoles - just click to disable the console in question - this would force the console to have to put in the Live sign in details.. Often MS Changes terms of conditions which require login details\ password to be confirmed anyway... so its concerning that you may need to give this information the next time it changes online...
You say the American Express Card has been closed down, Microsoft uses Continuous payment authority - so check the xbox billing section (via the website) where you can completely delete the billing information from the site - rather than just relying on the account being closed.. have had MS use a CPA 2 years after the card expired...0 -

Bit late now but could have also been so the buyer can see it's not been opened up as thats where some of the case saps are located.
You may want to get him to use the right details on future, My EA account used false data but got hacked and I could not remember what I put to get it back....0
