English Justice Anomalies

Options
I nearly coated the wife with half chewed tea and toast today.

Reading the local magistrates court "results" and the first case concerned a young man who :-

"Failed as a motorist to give a police constable his details, driving without insurance, no separate penalty, £85 costs;
Driving while disqualified, community order, £60 victim surcharge, 12 months driving ban;
Breached a conditional discharge, no action taken.

Two cases down another young man who :-

"Fished without a licence, £135 fine, £20 victim surcharge, £127 costs"

Words fail me (for a change)

    Yes we all know things like this are so wrong but what can we do about it??
    If it is your area write a letter, not email, to your MP and get others to do the same.

    Motorist who overstay their parking time can be fined £70. Yet someone who shoplifts will get a derisory fine of £20-£40. So forgetting your parking expiry is a more serious crime.

    Don't ever assume the English judicial system is about justice. It's more about protecting the wealthy and their assets.

    These are just results. You don't really know the circumstances of each case, and can't really comment for sure on them.

    If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

  • As the website linked to can't even get the gender of the convicted person right, I wouldn't rely on the rest of the report being totally correct.
    Josie Louise Smith, 21, of Charles Crescent, Taunton, failed as a motorist to give a police constable his details

    Unless, of course, the policeman had an identity crisis. He pulls the car over, goes up to the window and says "Excuse me, Miss. Who am I?" and she refuses to tell him.

    Just to make things clear what exactly are you complaining about?
    It's someone else's fault.

    Me too. I don't know if the OP has just added up the financial penalties for both offenders and taken no account of the other penalties imposed?

    Police and Politicians have been telling us for years how serious it is to drive without insurance - this person was also disqualified and obstructed a Policeman in carrying out his duties...
    Perhaps you should wonder why criminals laugh at the justice being dished out.
