Not really. You can buy a cheap remap where you don't know how smooth the power delivery is or pay a bit more and get in on RR. This will prevent any torque spikes and prevents clutch failure.

There's a common misconception that remap !!!!!!s the clutch, but this is easily prevented by smoothing the power curve to avoid torque spikes.

Smooth delivery will help but, if you increase the torque, you will inevitably put more strain on the clutch.

If i reset the trip computing when i join the motorway and check it when i leave the motorway on my commute to work then it's been in the high 70's cruising about 60mph over a distance of about 15 miles.

At 60 mph it might just be accurate, I'll be interested to know if you do check it some time. I wasn't thinking of someone modding a 130 bhp car for more power and then driving at 60 mph ;).

I brimmed the tank yesterday and reset the trip computer so i'll check it out when the light comes on vs re-brimming it and working out the real world mpg.

Car is used mainly for commuting to work, but it's nice to have a bit of power & torque for pulling off slip roads in rush hour

Why not just get a more powerful car?

There are remap kits you can buy. But the maps tend to be extremely unreliable.

Known several people try them and corrupt the ECU so badly the cars wouldnt run.

Join the forums for your car and see if they arrange rolling road and remap days. If you get enough members it can be £150 or maybe less for a rolling road session and a remap.

Always get a rolling road session before and after.

    Ibiza Cupra has approx 160bhp
    Ibiza FR has approx 130bhp

    Cupra is approx 2k extra
Remap on the FR will bring power to around 170bhp for £350 with no other mods

Mines will be live mapped whilst it's on the rollers

Are you uprating the suspension and brakes to cope with the extra power, and are you notifying your insurance company of the changes?;)

Why would he need to change the brakes or suspension, he knows why he's increasing the power, probably like most of us would to allow the engine give more torque at lower revs for some driving pleasure and to aid faster acceleration overall.

Unless its going to be driven by an idiot, driven flat out up to every roundabout/junction then stand on the brakes to wipe the extra speed off and take every corner at tyre shredding speeds, as a track day car might, there should be no need for any brake or suspension improvements.

The thing is that brakes wise i get to see some neglected underperforming brakes on cars serviced the modern way (by some disinterested tech peering through the wheel at the brakes and squirting brake cleaner at them and pronouning all well), far too many brakes are not giving their best and haven't for a long time...hence the suspicions here and elsewhere when they eventually start to give problems and the brakes are diagnosed as needing total refurb, well they would they've probably never been maintained properly for some 80k miles.

Yes, i'm insured with a broker that specialises in modified vehicles and pay a larger premium for the pleasure

Brakes - not at the moment, as i don't drive in a manner where i'd put myself in a situation where i need to brake harder than standard brakes provide.
The brakes on the front of the FR are huge as it is

Handling - It's an FR model so already has the same suspension set up as the more powerful Cupra model. Powerflex bushes all round will be done the same time as the remap though to compliment the already good handling of it.
