Hello,
I am in the process of installling new kitchen and was also thinking of Installing a water conditioner found most are the salt tablet types which cost £400+ for descent model and additional monthly salt refils.I than came across the Super Imp shown in the link below, quite amazing claim and being a bit suspicious, was wondering if people have used and there thoughts.
Any alternatives also appreciated.

These induction / magnetic things have been around in industry for years.
The magnetic ones have also been used in Koi ponds as anti algea gadgets
for at least the last 15 years.
Curiously enough i just bought one of these on ebay....got it for £3.50
new.

There are also permanent magnet and electro magnetic types that claim to soften water. Reading around some say they work others are less impressed.
Just type "descaler" into an ebay search and you will find more than you can shake a stick at and a lot cheaper than the water imp.
Personally if the one i got stops the shower from furring up i will be more than happy at the price0 -
Have a look at https://www.scalewatcher.co.uk/pages/faq.asp which should answer the majority of your questions.
From experience, I can confirm that these electronic devices do work (but I cannot vouch for the magnetic type).
If you are thinking of buying something like this you should bear in mind that they do not eliminate limescale - just reduce it. The limescale that is produced is easier to remove.
These devices do not soften water, they 'condition' it, which is not the same.
(A little tip about limescale build-up in an electric Kettle. Limescale is quickly produced by the rapid heating of water and is worse if you keep reheating the same water. You will find the limescale problem will reduce (although not go away) if you heat fresh water each time)
Going back to electronic Water Conditioners - these all work on the same principle and, for domestic purposes and as far as I can ascertain, are not dependant on the price paid.
Mine, when I bought it in the early days some years ago was about £70. I have installed one for someone about 18 months ago, which I bought for £40 (on offer I think) from Homebase, and this has worked perfectly well.0 -
Hi, I bought one after seeing it on a shopping channel £92.5 incl P&P Either http://www.idealworld.tv/csp/isd/ideal/index.csp or Direct from https://www.scalewizard.co.uk
Very easy to install, seems to be working.
DWhat goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
Heyy All,
Many Thanks for you replies, seems almost as though whether you spend £10-£15 as on ebay or almost £200 on product seems to do same job.
mss the one u bought from H/Base,have the users noticed quite a difference.
Keep those views coming this is quite interesting.0 -
I installed the conditioner in a small office.
They were using an electric kettle for their tea and coffee which, I was told, took several attempts to totally descale prior to the installation but only one descale was necessary after the conditioner was fitted. I was assured that the period between descales was about the same (i.e.when someone was prepared to do it) and they said they were very pleased with conditioner. Also they found that the taps were working better, which was a pity really because I used to do their maintenance work!!0
