Deposit paid to dealer - but now cannot supply car

This is a class example of why you should never buy a car without seeing it first. If you had done, all this hassle could have been avoided, and you could make up your own mind if the car was worth buying with the higher mileage. Mind you that mileage on a Volvo means it's only just run in. More advice is to buy from a dealer as near as possible to you, just to avoid this sort of thing happening and to make it easier if it has to be returned for repair.
I had a friend a few years ago who bought a car without seeing it, when he was told it was (I think) Arabian Grey colour. That's fine, he said, as long as it's not white. When he went to pick the car up, he found the 'Arabian Grey' was 'off-white'. He never liked that car and sold it a few months later at quite a loss."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

If I was buying a car in plentiful supply, then yes. The closest car matching the spec I'm after is 92 miles away, with only about half a dozen across the whole of the UK at a main dealer!
I have bought cars before unseen and not had any issues, and normally managed to get a great bargain too - but that means plenty of photos and somewhere reputable. Clearly what I need to do is tell the next person to physically check the car speedometer to see how many miles it's done, rather than relying on what is showing in front of them!0 -
I would think that the price of the car would have been based on 51000 miles showing.l on the clock not 20k.
The clerical error was when the advert and website was written.
Not sure that there is any Volvo that is that rare.
What specification was it if you don't mind me asking?0 -

Sorry but go and get the car you want then, 92 miles is not far. If you consider 92 miles far you don't need a car.0 -
I suggest the OP negotiates a discount with the dealer.0

Just go and buy the car.
Its a Volvo, is there that much difference between 20000 and 50000 as long as the rest of the car is in good condition.
I suspect it was priced at 50000 in the advert0 -
There arent rare volvos unless your talking classics. And never buy a car without seeing it. Now you say you got the train to the non existant car. Is that much closer than 92 miles?0

It was a 3 hour train journey from London to the dealer, the one I'd dealt with for the car I wanted was considerably further away than 92 miles.
It was a top spec S60 SE Lux Premium with all the toys. There are exactly 10 of these (in both SE & SE Lux trim) available through Volvo Selekt - unfortunately I can't link to the search results as I don't have enough posts here, apparently, but please check for yourself if you don't believe. And that's before we start looking at interiors, colours etc. I am fairly certain on pricing based on the pricing other dealers were offering.
As it turns out, the dealer did eventually come up with something appropriate at lunchtime. But this morning I'd agreed a great deal on a nice 13 plate with only a few miles on the clock, more or less meeting all my requirements, from someone else and got a great bargain despite it costing me slightly more given how new it is. As the first dealer did eventually become responsive and also with my happiness at my (new) great deal, told them just to refund my deposit and all would be well.
I look forward to saying how successful that distant buy is on Friday! I really find the aversion to distance-buying on here strange - given the savings available and the possibility to buy subject to viewing, I really don't see any issues assuming you've done your research and know the car + what you are looking for! Otherwise, you'd need to make at least two trips and countless others before finding the right car, and with rail ticket pricing, that could quickly add up. Much easier to find what you want, discuss, put deposit down and then visit, test and buy - if all is well, no money wasted.0 -
How many left have more than ten although they arent premium(or at least dont say premium)

And the reasons we are against buying a car without seeing....well your thread is a case in point.0
