Electricity Bill overcharge

Hi everyone,

We received an electricity bill around two weeks ago for around £300 on an estimated 2000 kWh usage. I immediately knew this was too much but a paid it anyway as I lost the gas box key.

Upon purchasing a new key, I found (today) we used only 1026 kWh. This means we were overcharged nearly £150!

My question is, if I phone Southern Electric, will they reimburse this amount or simply change the previous reading on the next bill to the correct amount and try to carry on as nothing happened (if that makes sense)?

...and whatever the scenario, should I phone them now and get it sorted or phone them when I get my next bill in three months time giving them the correct value then, so they send me another bill but with the correct figures?

They will only adjust the bill and leave the balance as a credit on your account. They are unlikely to refund such a small sum.

Are you on a fixed price deal over the next six months or are you facing a price increase? If the latter you're as well to keep schtum and accept the computer error in your favour.
