Scottish Power - Default on my account

Hi, I have found that Scottish Power have placed a default on my file which is now affecting my ability to obtain a mortgage. The default is for about £600 and happened whilst I was in shared accommodation. I stupidly put my name on the Scottish Power bill and when we were due to vacate the property, SP sent through bill as we had only been paying "estimated bills". I have tried to contact SP so many times, however, no-one will answer me. I know that this default will disappear from my file in Jan 2015, however, would like this removed now, but SP is not giving me the opportunity to remove this default from my file. I don't agree with the charge as I'm being left with the bill, but need this off my file so i can get a mortgage
Any anyone offer any advice here?
Thanks

So the name was on the account, you failed to check the bills and only paid estimates, you move out and get a final for £600 in your name which I am guessing you have not paid therefore they put a default on your file. Sorry but what did you expect, its up to you to chase the other flatmates for their share. It wont get removed if you speak to SP.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Spiro, thanks for your response. The other flat mates all live in other countries and no longer in contact + it is not that i can't pay, it's that this happened 5 years ago and SP won't respond to me as say can't find my details on their system. Have you any further comments?0

For tax purposes they have to keep records for 7 years. Even if they find the records it wont remove the default because you haven't paid the bill. Unfortunately for you the issue of the flatmates is a 'third party dispute' and SP wont give a monkies about it. Its downto you to get your money back from them.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Its a correctly applied default, your account is likely to be on their old systemDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
