Thanks Mojisola. All very helpful. I think some of that, but not all, is them down to a 't' to be honest.

As for why I care etc, it's complicated and doesn't need airing on a public forum, but suffice to say, they're family (although currently in my 'acquaintances' box). I know that half-truths don't help, and I fully understand the 'stay out of it' sentiment.

So in short, the website has been helpful, I will be staying out of it as much as I can (alas not terribly easy given the circumstances), and I'm not trying to self-diagnose them. I'm trying to understand some erratic and irrational behaviour so that I don't get upset about things that are said and done.

And yes, some of it is self-centred and downright rude, which I will not tolerate, but the rest I'll just let wash over me.

    Thanks all

Really? I don't think so. I think people like to use it to excuse bad behaviour, not tolerate it.

Bad behaviour is bad behaviour whatever the cause or reason behind it.

Take autism for example, it was once seen as the debilitating condition it can be with life long care.

Now it's thrown around as the naughty child's/selfish man illness. So people don't understand how complex and hard it can be for real people with the condition.

I would say that people who have NPD very rarely recognise that they have it, because part of being "narcissistic" means that they see no faults in their own behaviour, and are so socially inept and aloof, that they put themselves on a pedestal above others.
People who have ADHD, Aspergers, Autism and are being treated, are fully aware of their conditions and wish to be helped.
