item lost in post?

Hi!

I sold an item on ebay, some vouchers, for £30. I sent them recorded delivery over two weeks ago and they have not arrived. I've only just found out that the vouchers are not covered by the recorded delivery, and I've just checked to see if they have been signed for, and they have not. The buyer has not contacted me to say they haven't got them, which I find odd after two weeks, but they've not left feedback and not signed for the parcel, according to the royal mail website. So I'm assuming they have been lost in the post.

I don't know what to do. How long has the buyer got to tell me that it has not arrived, as I wouldn't have known this myself if I hadn't checked. And if I'm not covered by recorded delivery, is there any way of getting the money back if the buyer does get in touch, as RM can't prove what was in it would they? Or would they want proof that something worth £30 was inside?

Thanks

There is every possibility that the postman just put them through the door without getting a signature or that they just haven't inputted the signature details. If the buyer hasn't received them they would have contacted you or will contact you, I would wait until they do.

I agree with Flo Flo, do nothing until the buyer contacts you. It is likely that they just haven't had to sign for the package.

  • I would wait to hear from them. you have to wait about 28 working days to claim back from royal mail anyway.

I hardly ever sign for stuff though my door i have a great postie that i say hi to most days and he just signs for them if i am on the school run etc so saying that it is not signed for does not mean they dont have it.

Thanks, I didn't know that would happen. I wouldn't mind if my postman did it for me, but as the sender it's not so good as you don't have proof of reciept, and surely the RM will have people claiming for stuff that's been delivered?

Will wait and see if buyer says anything, I'm sure they'd have been shouting by now if they hadn't got it but I just like things to be wrapped up nicely! How long has the buyer got to say they didn't recieve it before they can do a paypal chargeback?

They have 45 days to do a chargeback through paypal, definitely do not contact them to ask if they have received them - don't give them ideas, lol.
  • as FloFlo states, they have 45 days to initiate a paypal dispute.

recorded items and even special delivery items are not always confirmed online (trust me I've suffered!!), this could be due to a variety of reasons:

    1) multiple items are signed for with just 1 signature, in this case royal mail will confirm delivery over the phone but not always online, don't know why but i know that's the case in some instances.

    2) the postie may not sign the delivery card on which he collects signatures before handing it in, again, in this case co confirmation will appear online
