Quote for installing Coving

Just got a quote from our builder for installing coving on our ceiling. He quoted us £10 a meter which a total of £440.

I have got the coving already so this is only his labour and adhensive cost.

I think this is quite expensive but this is the only quote I had so I cant compare. Is this quote fair ?
or I better off try to do it myself?

Thank you ~~

The only hard part if you were to do it yourself is the cutting of the corners, but you can get a plastic template to help you with that.
The real plaster ones are pretty heavy (not the polystyrene) so it's at least a two man job to hold it up, and the adhesive is going to take quite a while to set.
What i did was, while each piece was being held in place i got some small nails at about 12" spacing knock them half into the wall immediately underneath the coving, so it;s a bit like a mini bracket that's stopping it from falling. Then do exactly the same into the ceiling again hard up against the coving, this stops the coving from tipping. Then you leave it for the adhesive to set, probably overnight. You put the adhesive on before you start. Once it's secure you can pull out the nails the holes are so tiny any paint will cover them. Then it's just a case of a bit of pollifilla on the end of your finger along the wall and ceiling, and where any joints are.

The part which concern me most is where it requires cutting like corners or extending. Do you know where I can get the plastic template?

Also the coving I get is light weight one:

Does it make it easier to fit?

This the type of thing, or some sort of mitre box.
Remember cutting the corners doesn't have to be a perfect fit 'cos you can smooth in pollifilla and sand it down, 8' off the ground nobody will see a slight imperfection

read the reviews on that, most were more than happy.
or see the mitre box below it for £5

You can buy ready made internal, and external corners, the look ver professional. It is far cheaper than paying someone.

Thank you very much for all the advise. I will try to do it myself first.
I have got the mitre box today but still cant get the corner right, so I bought a set of external/external corners, gonna follow it and cut the coving.

    Thank you again guys!
