Would you fix without annual usage ?

Hi

I moved in a new place recently (Aug) that had British gas .

Currently, I give them every month and request for a bill which i like

I want to fix but i don't have any data to use

Would you fix right now or wait after year to switch.

The changing process frightens me because :

>< The bad review on the suppliers
<> The supplier want me to pay on direct debit >>> I've read too many horror stories .
<> BG seem okay at the moment .

I'm scared of the whole process.

Why don't you have any data? Have you never lived in a flat/house before?

There are 2015/2016 fixes with no leaving penalties. There are 2015/2016 fixes that are cheaper than most standard tariffs.

There are no Direct Debit horror stories for grown-ups who can read a meter and take two minutes once every two or four months to check how much they are using.

Have a look at short fixes for an average use. You want to act now before winter kicks in.

    Assume:

    Gas 16,500kWh
    Electricity 3,300kWh

A good fix is around £1,200.

Standard tariff is around £1,400 , which is why they say they can save you £200.

For the above assumptions - are they for a house that's empty between say 8.30am and 4pm weekdays ie a working/schooling family ?

No, they're national averages. Why not just base your comparison on the usage in your last property, if similar?
Refusing to use DD locks you out from the majority of the remaining cheap fixes, which require monthly DD. Nothing to be scared of, you have the protection of the bank's DD guarantee.
And almost any move is better than sitting on BG's Standard tariff (if that's what you are currently on) through the winter, since that's the most expensive.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • The new national averages wef Jan 2014 are apparently 13,500 gas, 3200 electric.
