I have an old computer that I use with freenas to keep backups of my photos and music and stream to other devices.
This has failed but I managed to get my files off it.
Rather than buy a new motherboard and in the interest of moneysaving, not having a computer running 24/7, would this do the same job?

it's a nas, so yes, but does it need to be a nas, a portable usb hard disk is cheaper to buy and run, unless you need 2TB, and not as prone to the effects of computer worms
If the old hard disk is still working, you could also put that in a usb or nas caddy!!

yes but the computer needs to be on all the time, does it not?0 -
to do what
if the purpose of this is to backup data, do the backup, disconnect it, turn off, done.
if the purpose is to stream, why can't you just leave the data on another machine/laptop, which also acts as a backup copy!!
