Weeds Question

We inherited a front lawn full of weeds,We have plated lots of shrubs which in time will cover much of it, but that will take several years. I have tried mulching with bark, but it just seemed to disappear. Someone told me take the worms take it down ???

I wondered about using ornamentle gravel, but would that prevent the growth of the shrubs ?

Any advice please?

Strip the whole area, apart from the shrubs. Lay down permeable membrane, ensuring the shrubs come up thru it. Then cover the whole lot with whatever material you want to look at ... shingle, gravel, bark, etc.

    Then you'll have a virtually hassle-free garden.

Spray everything with GLYPHOS, weedkiller. It does not harm the soil and kills all plant life dead in weeks. May not be what you want though

    Mustang's suggestion works!
What is best is sometimes called weed control fabric and can be bought at most garden centres. Any weeds that do appear are easily pulled out.
Most of the bark chippings are spread about by birds as they try and feed on the insects that live in it!

Thanks for your replies. I will take mustang's advice. I can't use weed killer because it may damage the shrubs, but thanks anyway.
