upvc front door

I hate having the salesmen round so would like to know if what I've been quoted is reasonable...
For installation, disposal of old door and cost of new door, £1293. It seems a lot, even though it's loads cheaper than the first 2 quotes I was given!
The company are well known, reputable and the quality seems good. I don't want to be too cheap but neither do I wish to be ripped off!
Any advice appreciated.

what have u got in now?

we had a REALLY drafty front and back door, it was a double glazed modern un it but just hadnt been fitted properly before we moved in.

was quoted a silly amount from a window firm but in the end got a 'window doctor' round who took them out, cleaned them up and re-fitted properley for £150.

cant believe the difference it makes!

maybe think about a second hand unit if times are hard? should be a 'window doctor' type company near you?

I think if you said that was for 2 doors, one at the back and one at the front you'd be nearer a decent figure,
    Whereabouts are you ?
I spent a couple of years selling DG for one of the top companies. ........ Find a local small firm.

    Update,
Check this out just as an example, this is supply only but ask yourself what is a fair figure for labour for a job taking less than a day. There is a link there you can click to find a fitter,

Not sure where you are in the country but in South Wales https://www.mpnwindows.com they have PVC front doors fully fitted for £499

So price range I think at the quote you have had is very expensive you can get composite doors installed cheaper than what you have been quoted
  • We've got a sold wood door atm, but it's really drafty. And vibrates when the people across the road knock on theirs!
It does seem excessive for one upvc door after checking a few of those replies out so thanks for all replies.
We're in Kent, which quite frankly seems to be rip off prices like London but still, pretty sure I can do better so will have to have more salespeople round. :(
  • hi little.... salespeople usually equals an extra overhead which has to be covered ...... look for a small local one man company that way you likely to get a more competitive quote....... you can see all over the web how much these items cost........
  • i got my double glazed upvc installed around 2 months ago in london (NW) for £750 from a local company
most of the bigger companies were over £1000 (ranging from £950 to £1600)
    am pleased with the quality

I did miss out on a deal - in B&Q they had a ex-display door on sale for £200 from £1000, i missed it by like 15 minutes
if you go to your local B&Q and grab a bargain like that, you can get it installed for under £300-£400 by any handyman or window / door installer.... would be a good bargain as well

Putting £££s to one side for the moment, is there a specification of door to meet from a security perspective ? I know there are different types of lock and mechanisms but what about the materials the door is made from ?

Any advice would be helpful here

    thanks

depends on the door, composite or panel doors, panel doors have optional reinforcing in the centre, although most doors that you will buy will stop all but the most determined burgulars, even the very basic upvc doors have great locking systems so don't be fooled into believing you need to spend ££££'s on a secure door.
