IE cannot display the webpage

Hi

I cannot connect to the internet :(

2 computers, 1 desktop 1 laptop, laptop connects to ineternet OK, but desktop cannot connect, both running Xwindows 8, been onto Virgin tech suppport in India :mad: unable to make any progress, I've rebooted the modem, laptop still connects OK, bit desktop still cannot connect.

Any suggestions
I'm hopeless with technology, in addition, I suffer with MH issues, what may appear simple, I struggle with, may I ask, please be patient, thank you

    OK, if the laptop can connect, then it's nothing to do with Virgin, your issue is your desktop.
    How is it connected to the modem?
    Have you tried re-botting the desktop?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

    yes, several times

    Down by the clock, there used to be 2 red x with tv monitors, now thre's only 1 when I hover the mouse over it, it says "local coonection is unplugged"
