Everyone seems to have a standing charge - British gas, e-on etc etc
but on my nPower quote there is no standing charge (the only 1 not to).
I phoned them up and they confirmed they dont have a stanading charge on Electricity.

Anyone know if this is indeed correct?

Not true. There is a standing charge of £42 per year on some of their electricity tariffs.

There is, however, also a £42 per year Direct Debit discount.

It is ridiculous that Ofgem is mandating and endorsing such an idiotic and misleading obfuscation.

You should also be aware the complementary gas standing charge on that tariff is one of the highest of any supplier - more than £200 per year.
  • I took out npower 2017 fixed deal and there IS a standing charge on that, and I,m ALL electric

Actually i take it back that britsh gas have a standing charge.

It seems on my current british gas bills i am not charged a standing charge but instead charged more for the first xxxx of Kwh used @ 7.301p then 4.064p after that.

So ive got 3 suppliers im looking at (npower, e-on, BG) all with different ways of charging, making it impossible for me to accurately compare their prices against each other. Unbeliveable.

Nonsense. It is as straightforward with that as with most any alternative.

Hmmm. No matter what quote details i put into nPowers calculator there is never a standing charge on electricity.

    http://www.npower.com/home/index.htm
enter postcode and click compare npower prices.

Maybe they have done away wth standing charges but it does seem odd since everyone else has them.

why use npowers site??, that doesn't compare other tariffs of other companys out there to see what the cheapest option is for you

npower haven't done away with them at all, march 2017 as them (which as now been pulled) dec 2017 (current one) also as standing charges. it may vary in different parts of the country, that is all.

if you want to find out the cheapest one for you never use the companys website as that only gives you their tariffs, use one of the comparison sites as stated above

    try uswitch, confused or others.

I repeat: "Thereis a standing charge of £42 per year on some of their electricity tariffs. There is, however, also a £42 per year Direct Debit discount." The net cost quoted per day is 0p but that is not because there is no standing charge.
