replacing toilet flush

Options
Our push button (top of cistern) has broken, not suprisingly as it was made of chrome covered plastic. Anyway, I can't just replace the button as one or two of the smaller components in the lever system that releases the flush valve seem to have been flushed away! So I guess it will be easier to just replace the whole flush unit. Does anybody know where I can get one, as I've been to the DIY shops and I can't see anything similar. In the toilet display areas they have some nice ones - but I obviously don't want to buy the whole toilet!

Any advice would be much welcomed.

Do you mean one of these?
Screwfix do them, locally I would go to Plumbase or similar rather than DIY sheds.

Thanks Dennis99, it doesn't look like the one I currently have - but maybe it would do the same thing? I have notice some on this website - http://www.bes.co.uk/nav_graf/frames_cat.htm?url=http://www.bes.co.uk/products/119.asp and they specifiy a 1+1/2" or 2" outlet. Is this measurement the width at the bottom?
    Thanks

It's a push button syphon and it will work and fit in exactly the same way as the old one did.

You could also try fitting a more expensive 'flapper' valve - don't know what they are like though but always fancied fitting one.
  • Have a look for a make and model number on your existing unit as many of these can just be twisted apart and replaced, rather then replacing the whole mechanism!

Have a look at yours and isolate the water to it and grab the flush mechanism and turn it anti clockwiae and it should unclick. then fit the new one in the same way.

If you get a different make then you might end up having to replace the whole mechanism and this will involve removing the cistern if your toilet is a low level one!

    I hope this makes sense!
