  • That installation is at least 30 years old. The cable is probably early pvc.
    The earth will be very poor... The lighting circuit might not have a earth. It really could do with a rewire.

    That's not correct. If there are socket circuits which can supply outdoor equipment (OP said it was a house) then that's a code C2 on the Electrical Installation Condition Report (not called PIR anymore)- which is not a pass.

    OP - my advice is still to get it tested
