Upgrading RAM and dead battery

Morning

I've taken on my OH's Zoostorm VME50 laptop. It currently has only 1gb of RAM, but I was hoping I could upgrade it. Problem is I can't find anything on the ZooStorm website. I've decided to install Ubuntu onto it, so find out what all the fuss over Linux is.

Nevertheless, if anyone can point me in the direction to find out if I can upgrade the RAM on this laptopn, that would be appreciated.

Also, I think my old Sony Vaio's battery has literally died because as soon as the charger is disconnected the system turns off immediately. Could this be the battery? The laptop is 5 years old, but I am surprised that it won't hold any charge whatsoever.

I know this is two questions in one post, but assistance would be great.

I use the Crucial memory website to analyse my pc and identify the correct memory and possible configurations that will work successfully.

Thanks Neil. Annoyingly they don't have Zoostorm listed on the manufacturers.

Downloaded the scan software from them and I stand corrected, there's 2gb of RAM on the computer.

    Currently Installed Memory: 2GB
    Total Memory Slots: 2
    Available Memory Slots: 1

Will send this company an email through their site to see what can be done.

The scanner will show you available slots and maximum amount of memory is can have.

    What does it say?

There's no need to email anyone, all the information is available.

I must be going blind, because I can't see where the maximum amount of memory this can take...

If you still have Windows 7 on it, run CPU-Z

Thanks ND. Have downloaded that and it's confirmed DDR2 (which ZooStorm have also confirmed by email). ZS also confirmed the laptop has a maximum of 4gb of RAM, so will look to get 2gb of DDR2. Where's the best place to get memory from? Crucial?

Also, with regards to the battery in my Vaio (VDN-FZ19VN), can a battery be *that* dead that it won't hold any charge whatsoever?

Have you taken the battery out and reinserted it?

Do you feel that you need 4GB of RAM?

Did CPU-Z confirm that there is actually a 2GB module within?
  • Have you taken the battery out and reinserted it?

Yes I have. If the charger isn't plugged in, there is no reaction from the laptop at all.

I am a fan of Football Manager, which seems to like lots of memory. I haven't been able to play it properly on my Vaio, due to only 2gb RAM on that one.
Did CPU-Z confirm that there is actually a 2GB module within?

Yes. As far as I can see it states 2gb.

I'm starting to wonder whether I take the 2gb DDR SDRAM from my Vaio and put it into the Zoostorm.

    That would be DDR2.

The Zoostorm has a single core Celeron processor or perhaps a dual core Pentium. It will perform even more poorly than the Sony.
Best bet is to move the 2GB module from the Zoostorm to the Sony and to buy two of these for the Zoostorm. £9.98 in total.

Any reason why to buy 2 of the 1gb, rather than 2 of the 2gb?
Without wanting to sound stupid (probably there already), is there a reason why I need the link to the drivers?
