Running red lights, I wanna take action

i do sympathize. the standards of driving are dropping by the day. it is maddening but what i do is follow the highway code to the letter so i can take a little delight that my driving is ok and there,s isn't. sooner or later there will come a cropper.0

I trust that this puts the problem you describe into perspective.
Move on and stop worrying.
It's great knowing you have your position in the universe worked out and accept that you are but an insignificant tiny piece of it. Remembering all that when you are about to get splattered is a more difficult excersize, I think.0 -

AFAIK if you take down a reg no. and report it to the police for jumping a red light, they will go round to the persons house and give them an ear bashing!;)
And if you're fed up with people stopping bumper to bumper on the crossing bloccking you, just climb over their bonnent. They'll soon get the idea0 -

To be honest I do think this the root of the problem. The government is obsessed with the 7.3% of accidents caused by speed and is neglecting all other causes.

I don't think these are trivial problems. I am suprised people don't seem to think running a red light is a problem. Someone could be seriously injured by this.
I have found a site that seems to want to clamp down on dangerous driving

You have two main options that will actually get something to happen...
1) Write to the council over and over and over again. They will, eventually, put speed bumps in place.
2) Jump out and get hit by 5 different passing cars. The government will install a speed camera and/or drop the speed limit.
Sorry, I never said the thing that happened would be useful
There's nothing you can do, the government has decided to give up on trying to improve driving standards...if you send them proof they're more likely to find something to charge you with than the motorists in question, so you just have to make sure the traffic's stopped before you cross.0 -
Well it looks like the Pope is taking my complaint seriously!

1. You shall not kill
2. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm
3. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events
4. Be charitable and help your neighbour in need, especially victims of accidents
5. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin
6. Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so
7. Support the families of accident victims
8. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness
9. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party
10. Feel responsible toward others

I have this argument every time someone defends speed cameras!
I dislike them because they only look at one thing - is the driver exceeding the speed limit. A speed camera will not catch any of the following
Drivers without tax /insurance
Drivers using mobiles
Drunk drivers
Drivers driving inappropriately but within the speed limit
Drivers using drugsGwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -

Hi,
I can't believe there are so many selfish people doing this. Is there anything I can do to stop it? I was thinking of petitioning the council on certian problem crossings or taking photos to shame the drivers. Any better ideas?
It's amazing the difference in how people drive when there are traffic light cameras. There is a crossing near where I use to live which had traffic light cameras installed - it was suddenly much safer to cross the road and drive across that junction.
In another place near by, the toucan crossing is raised with a warning a few feet away so you know you are going to have to slow down to go over it.
Personally I hate zebra crossings as a pedestrian and a motorist:
1. Because quite a few of them are badly placed. Why place a crossing so someone walking down the street can walk straight over a crossing on the main road and can only be seen once they are on the crossing?
2. Motorists, on a road that are clear of obstructions on the side, pretend they can't stop when I know from driving down the road you can see people at the crossing from 1/3 of a mile away.
3. Lots of them are placed in areas with heavy trees/shrubs that aren't cut back so you can't be seen waiting to cross and as a motorist you can't see others waiting. This is not helped by the fact they put black shields round the crossing lights. Strangely with traffic signal controlled pedestrian crossings someone maintains the trees around them OR they put in another signal.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
