Friday 1st November - What Small DFW Things Will You Be Doing Today??!

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
:money::money:

November? how can it be November? Crikey where has this year gone :eek:

Im about a million hours ahead of all of you, so when Im posting it looks like I'm likely to be on starting off duty :)

Sorry to hear about your window madness, Foxgloves. Like having a piano dropped on you on the sidewalk!

Aching from yesterday at the gym, but in a good way.

Today I:
- brought lunch in to work
- carpool / staff pick up service all day, getting ride from housemates in evening
- fit in some time for mini-tests as part of some online professional development courses I'm taking. Good CV-boosting and free, so very MSE
- Not very MSE but off to the cinema tonight with my roommates, better than being cooped up
- make shopping list based on meal plan and do shopping while waiting at the cinema (its in a mall)
- work hard and write next week's to do list
- book in ride for tomorrow to get my permit sorted finally

Hugs to all, hope you had a great and not tooooo scary Halloween!

OK that's my lot. Today is the last day of my 6 manic weeks at work. Its gone so quickly. Yesterday was a really stressful day as I had so much to do and realised I was not going to meet the deadline for typing up my appraisals :( I have submitted 7/10 but still have 3 left to type up. Nothing more I could do because there just hasn't been enough time, but I felt rotten that I didn't finish them. Oh well will have to type them up over the weekend.

Have a great day everyone. It's Friiiiiiiiiiiday :j

Another day and another small saving.
Washed sons work clothes early and put on line.
    Read the paper online.
    Checked bank account.
Printed off new details of tariff change for gas/electric.
    Read the meters/online customer.
Small amount of ironing - done.

yesterday spent my free £20 vouchers for doing surveys in M&S, I bought the musical tree biscuit tin for £5. really chuffed with it. The stag shortbread biscuit tin. x3 bags of chocolate notes and coins. I had not seen the chocolate notes before! what a novelty!
All put away in my Christmas box.

I bought some dark pink cord trousers for £8.99 reduced from £35. Guess ladies do not like pink? I love pink, purple, blue and gray.
    So many people ware black!

Washed hair and cut it a bit. (fringe)

email today! Congratulations you have won £20 in our monthly prize draw.

Quidco has paid out £3 this week.

Constantly look for plugs out. Quietly and just when left in and not being used.I intend to stay a low fuel user. No heating on yet.

Happy 1st of the month every saver.

    Afternoon money savers,
Thanks to everyone who had words of wisdom on my grumpy mood yesterday because of having to pay out all that money unexpectedly to locksmith. You were right......the house is secure, it couldn't have been foreseen & at least we had the money to pay without going overdrawn or sticking it on credit. I'd earmarked that money for getting some heavy tree work, etc, done in our garden, & was disappointed that my careful plans had gone awry. Feel more stoical about it today. Thanks x
    Today's small things:
*No heating on generally, though mr f has just this minute switched storage heaters onto their very lowest setting to check they're all still working after being switched off for so long.
    *Made bread.
*Made pumpkin soup for lunch using the insides of the pumpkin I hollowed out for a lantern. Spare portion gone in freezer.
*Dinner as per meal plans - macaroni cheese from freezer & stir-fried courgettes from the garden.
*Cat's bag packed for the cattery - taking own food. He's on a special diet anyway, but in supplying our own, we get an 80p per day reduction in the bill.
*Did the ironing, switched off for last garment.
*Found some pretty yarn in my stash to cast on a case for my new phone.
*Washing machine timer set to do a maintenance wash at 90 deg overnight on Economy 7 tariff.....a few specks of gunk starting to appear on clothes, so definitely ready for a hot cycle & a dash of vinegar.
*Heated airer plugged in but not being switched on till bedtime to get it on the cheaper tariff.
*Lots of unsolicited mail in the post today. have gone through it & salvaged anything useful i.e decent plastic bags for freezer bags, unused envelopes. Chucked leaflet for well known pizza chain (as in 'pub game enjoyed by elderly men') in the bin to avoid temptation of husband. The prices just seem a bit of a p*sstake now. Very nice pizzas, but for a disc of bread dough scattered with some bought in chunks of stuff, the mark-up must be significant.
    *Update budgets.
*Ask myself why I spent £2 on a stuffed black toy rat at IKEA yesterday. I just thought he looked like a medieval plague rat & would look good peeping out from the back of our kitchen dresser!
That's it, must crack on now.
    foxgloves x
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
