Put simply, if you have a valid breach of contract claim against the seller, then you have a valid claim against your credit card company.
That's what "jointly and severally liable" means.
As you can make a SoGA claim against the seller for up to six years after the sale (slightly different in Scotland), then you can make exactly the same claim against your CC co.
Note that this does not mean that the CC co will necessarily be a soft touch.
For example, after six months from purchase the seller may need you to prove that the problem is inherent, i.e. present at the time of sale but not necessarily apparent at that time.
The CC co is equally entitled to ask you for that proof.
