Builder Dispute

Hi Everyone,
Trying to get some help for a friend who's in dispute with a builder he used recently. Basically, he hired a local builder to renovate a couple of properties, they agreed a fee verbally, but didn't enter into any written contract. Once most of the work had been done he noticed quite a few faults with the builders work and asked him to rectify them but the builder refused and asked for more money than was previously agreed even though he had been paid all of the agreed fee. The builder also provided two invoices for the two properties to say he had been paid in full.
Now the builder has filed a case against my friend saying he hasn't paid him all the agreed money and that he never issued those invoices. He has also inflated the original fee by 150%.
Would appreciate any advice you can give.

He'll be laughed out of court (builder that is) - your friend should get another builder to make an estimate of costs to put right what the original builder hasn't finished and counter claim for that amount.0

Im agreeing with sheep. The builder doesnt have a chance. if he agreed to be paid £100 for fixing a loo and only did half the job then he doesnt get paid the full amount or he finishes the job. Get another builder to estimate (echoing sheep) and go for the gold. Kepp us updated. x x xDebts: Gym £[strike]465.75[/strike] Student account [strike]£1039.88[/strike] Overdraft [strike]£129.00[/strike] Credit Card [strike]£2772.22[/strike] Loan [strike]£6222.01 [/strike]
Total £10628.86
All paid off! 10/03/2009 :j0 -

Surely if your friend has receipts for the paid invoices, then not a case. Maybe a case for always getting written estimates in the first place.
Sorry your friend is having this worry.
