Alright guys and girls. We recently received this quote for an overhaul of our central heating system. The chap came recommended by a friend and seemed sound when he came to quote for the job. Sounds ok at a glance. Obviously dependent on location etc. is the guy recommended? References? Qualified? Insured?

I would question a power flush seeing as he will be removing all the rads after he's flushed them. Unless the pipe work is badly clogged I would have thought a chemical flush on the new system would be fine.
  • Thanks for the reply Booty.

West Midlands area. Came recommended. Fully qualified and registered with Gas Safe.

We have microbore piping if this makes any difference?

    cheers
  • Anybody else have an opinion on this?

    Thanks in advance.

The flush price seems way too high when doing all the other work.
I would get a couple more quotes.
I do not think its good value.

Please don,t let this put you off.
  • Here in West Yorks we've just been quoted £300 for a chemical flush, no VAT on top. Actually the plumber described pumping something through for 3-4 days and with added inhibitor - (or £500 for a power flush). This was after plumber had put some new radiators in and showed me the very dirty, sludgy water coming out of another. Probably was last done in 2001 (form completed, by boiler, before we came here).
Do others think this price is ok, and should it be done?
