Old Style Flea Treatment

Mutt has fleas  so I've got my arsenal ready .....capster tablets & spray for the house.

But having a look on the internet tea tree oil seems to be a favourite old style method of getting rid of the unwanted visitors and brewer's yeast in preventing them.

So I've got myself some oil but it says on the bottle not to be used on animals - but I was going to use it diluted in the water we bath him in .....is this OK or is a complete no no ?

Also with the brewer's yeast I was going to give him a tablet weekly though again I need to watch for yeast intolerance.

Is this one case where old style treatments aren't worth it?

One of my friends uses leave in tea tree hair conditioner on her dogs, I think she gets it from B/&M or Home Bargains.

I was thinking Tea Tree oil for my cat - roughly in the area where I put spotons - as I THINK its bad for them if ingested (but so are the 'chemical' ones).
I know TTO is a natural 'turn off' for insects - I may well try a very little diluted in olive oil............wish me luck!

Please don't without doing research first -I have a feeling that essential oils (such as TTO) are fatal for cats....might be wrong but please check first

I have just 'skimmed' a few studies and I WONT be using TTO. Cats are apparently very sensitive to it and it IS toxic to them! even in very dilute amounts!
    Thank you Mountainofdebt!

I just googled natural remedy for fleas and TTO came up - it didn't occur to me that cats may be sensitive to it.

Barnes Thanks you and so do I! I also cant believe how many sites recommend TTO based products, when its clear from the studies that it is very toxic to cats.

hmmm - cats and humans have been close for centuries - and I CANT believe the humans put up with fleas! I know a few human recipes for lice and fleas involved vinegars ..............how would cats cope with those?
