I think 25 or 30% is the sort of discount you should expect assuming it has been repaired & gone through VIC.

Might be a bit higher on an almost new car and could be close to zero on a £400 banger

Thanks for your response. Does CAT C/D up the Insurance premium?

A couple of companies won't cover them at all.

The rest don't care so will charge normal premiums.

Hi Vaio, Is Cat D worse than Cat C?

However, for a newer car to be Cat C or D, the damage would be more extensive. On a banger, it could be quite minor.

There is no hard and fast answer, CAT D is usually light damage and both categories render the vehicle beyond economical repair.
Cat C damage repairable, B damaged not repairable but for spares, Cat A, scrap not to be used for spares.
Depending on the age of the car and how long the new owner intends to keep it and if the vehicle can be insured cheaply, will dictate largely if it is worth consideration, personally I would touch either for the savings on purchase price but as said it depends on varying factors.

As mentioned a CAT C on a fairly new car could have been a serious accident.

Checkout some of the salvage auctions. Light frontal = everything forward of the windscreen is in the glovebox. Light rear = the boot is missing.

Unless you know what your buying or getting a proper inspection dont touch it.
