    Err.
No standing charge, and per-unit fees on no units is how much?
I was talking about households with a low usage all year round to provide hot water and cooking food. That is, more like Riversmeade than this thread's OP. Sorry about the 'jacking.

    Wait 'til you hear this........

The new standing charge (£91 a year) comes into effect on 23-11-13, but the earliest meter removal date is 16-12-13!!

I'll let you know if British Gas are going to try to bill me for a standing charge (for a cut-off gas supply) from 23-11 til 16-12 (!)

(16-12 is date of meter removal)

Emailed them this morning. Fingers crossed!
Why on earth shouldn't they? Why don't you want to pay?
  • in reply to the last post someone made: my gas is cut off and i immediately told british farce, sorry british gas, i want their meter removed. how can they charge standing charge when my gas is cut off at the mains?
  • Hi all, we're an all electric home,we don't use gas but we still have a meter. They supposed to have come down Tuesday 29th October 2013, but no one turned up so I phoned them up and they insisted that they knocked on my door at 856am I was in I woke up at 6am n so did my son we also have a dog which always reacts to anyone knocking on the door and he didn't flinch, also my windows were open so people would know someone was in,anyway the woman on the other end of the phone said "an investigation will happen and if I want to rebook there will be a charge" I'm also sending them an email of complaint, they will do anything to get your money x

I'm renovating a house - have been for the last year - usage is low ...gas just the boiler set at 5 deg overwinter to stop freezing and electricity for power tools/lighting ...and had solar panels fitted into last quarter ... Trying to be green and thinking about ground source heat pump - and/or solar thermal - can't quite make the figures stack up ...not wanting to make money - just cover installation costs...final straw for not doing either might be the standing charges... If I did both and just used gas for cooking it will cost me £91 + a year - then £157+ and that figure has to come into my total energy costs/savings/RHI payments etc calculation - to put that into perspective predicted savings on gas for solar thermal is £60 pa... I'm already 'suffering' this... BG switched me to a standing charge tariff - bill for last quarter with 32 units (£4.50 ish ) worth of electricity and zero gas was £33.00.

    Thanks for the post, debbieblueeyes,

That is really disgusting behaviour on the part of British Gas.

I can tell you that they also lied to me.

On 1 Novermber 2013 between 4.29pm to 4.42pm Monsa from British Gas (on BG's 08000480303 number) arranged for the appointment of the meter removal on 16-12-13 (am) but could not say whether or not I would be liable for the standing charge between 23/11 and 16/12.

She said that a manager would call on 4-11-13 to say whether or not the standing charge would apply before the meter is removed.

    The outcome: NOBODY CALLED!

WILL THEY EVEN TURN UP ON 16 DECEMBER? I DOUBT IT. They'll probably pretend they arrrived so they can charge me.

I think this lying can be viewed as a type of fraud.

Also, I emailed Jennifer Donaldson on 1 and 2 November 2013 about refuding me my one pund four pence and also about the standing charge. She refuses to reply to my emails.
  • Dear All,

If British Gas illegally charge me, I WILL take them to court.

I WILL even pay the court fee so that I can expose them.

I WILL ask the local paper to report the case.

I WILL do this because nobody should have to go through this stress, constant lying caused by BRITISH GAS.

    debbieblueeyes,

I would very strongly recommend that you imediately contact your local paper and local BBC radio station about what British Gas did to you.

BG get away with this appalling behaviour because very, very few people end up reporting their bad experience to the media.

NADIA666, you appear to have strong bias in favour of British Gas.

I don't know if you work for them or not.

I already replied to your strange post of 2-11-13. I said :

"in reply to the last post someone made: my gas is cut off and i immediately told british farce, sorry british gas, i want their meter removed. how can they charge standing charge when my gas is cut off at the mains?"

Now, as BG are prepared to lie to me and they don't reply to emails specifically addressed to individuals, they're obviously prepared to illegally charge me.

If they do, I'LL *PAY* to take *them* to court and I'LL contact the media about it to.

I hope everyone noticed debbieblueeyes post about British Gas **pretending** they turned up to an appointment.

If anyone is with British Gas, I'd recommend switiching right now.
