I hear what you say, JJ.
But if I sent a friend an email saying:-
I'm your friend
I've invested in this company
It's owned by my good friend
He's looking for more investors
You can invest too
It's very cheap
I promised him I would let you know
Then I think my said friend would think I was recommending that he invest.
;-)
If I was the friend I might not be your friend any longer.0 -
I agree with JimJames this could be a break of DP,
But also i think the email sounds like it was a Financial Promotion and therefore it should have been signed off by an Financial Conduct Authority authorised company - if it was not the email would have been an illegal financial promotion.0 -
Not sure if you guys would be happy with this but Money Saving Expert is being implied as a supporter (even though the wording is very clever) on the latest share offer by a dodgy looking testimonial.

I searched both the main site and forums and this thread was the only thing that came up, and reading it I can't see how it could ever have inspired anybody to invest so it sounds made up to me. I have reported it to MSE to see if they want to take any action to get it removed. Not sure if you guys would be happy with this but Money Saving Expert is being implied as a supporter (even though the wording is very clever) on the latest share offer by a dodgy looking testimonial.

Interesting old thread. I thought this sort of crowd-funding for investments was actually illegal in the UK. Obviously not. I know the SEC has been looking into it in the USA.0
