Just to say thank you for method of challenging banding publicised in national press earlier in year. Took a while. Now have £2,965.21, refund from 1.4.93 and a lower band. SML

I have lived in my house since 1980. Its value then as new was £31.500. In 1991 it was valued according to the calculater in 1991 at £83.000 which should placed me within band 'D' when in fact I have been paying a rate as in band 'E' To claim any rebate is it really as easy as it seems?

Got a reply and the valuation officer has sent me two letters stating that my claim is not valid. However she has sent me form VO7497 so that I can resubmit my claim. have any of you any knowledge of this form.
  • We successfully followed the system and applied for a council tax band reduction, from band D to Band C. Next door neighbour's exact same house was Band C. After a few months wait, the valuation officer for the area, ruled that our property would be reclassified as Band C. Local council sent ammended council tax rates for the rest of this year, and two days later a cheque for £1300. Many thanks Martin, for your moneysaving website.
  • Have tried looking up what band my neighbours are in but it can't even find our house with a billing reference let alone any neighbours. Did anyone else have this problem?
    1% challenge - £4018 - reduce by 100 payments of £41.
