Really confused

I was talking to my neighbour the other day about gas & electric bills and found out that there's is ALOT lower than mine. There is 4 of them in 1 property and 3 in another and in mine it is just me by myself. I have all energy efficient appliances that are all turned off when not in use. I am 21 and have only lived alone for last 2 months. My neighbours electric bill was £40 for the quarter and mine was £160 any advice.

Gas or electric heating? Immersion heater on all day?

It is possible the meters are mismatched (but unlikely). Easiest way to check is with a friend, two mobile phones and a kettle.

Alternative possibilities: you have a catch-up bill, they are about to have a catch-up bill, you are paying for your previous occupants' usage. If you have gas heating it is pretty impossible to unknowingly consume £80 of electricity per month.

You have to check week-by-week to see what you are using now.

...and make sure the decimal point on meter readings is in the correct place.
