I feel a bit daft now for not knowing this! that is really helpful to know, they are all a crack open now and I will just leave them like that and see if it improves.
The front will always be a problem due to not getting any direct sunlight and the radiator is a bit rubbish but I couldn't afford to get this fixed. I'm getting a mini oil heater for the front bedroom to help with the problem and will be good come winter anyway as it gets cold in there. As a last resort might get a dehumidifier but they are so pricey.
thanks for all the helpful suggestions from everyone
That's ok, I would never have known either had my husband not sold double glazing once upon a time. Glad to help.

I have house cats and recently invested in some of these

They fit between the window and frame, so can't be seen when the window is closed. They're really easy to fit and they also come in a cheaper multipack if you need a few:money:

They do have a left and a right, depending on which way your window opens, but it's simple enough to work out.
The best thing is there are no keys to get lost, so if you needed to open your windows in an emergency it's not a problem. The amount the window opens is determined by where you fit the catch.
Video of them in operation.
