Noddle - Score changes, nothing else

Options
I signed up with Noddle a few months ago along with the million others who saw Martin mention it on TV, resulting in us overloading their servers.

Since that time nothing has changed in my personal circumstances. I live at the same address, have the same accounts for utilities, the same bank accounts and credit cards, the same debt (Student loan, nearly all paid off, nothing else), same job and yet my Noddle score is all over the place.

When I first signed up, 4/5. Seemed about right, I'm not a home owner, everything else is fine.

2 months later. 3/5.
today. 5/5

I can understand a score changing over time, for example living at an address for an extended period of time, clearing a debt etc, but when I haven't had any changes in my personal circumstances I can't see how this is possible unless their algorithm is effectively random.

Can anyone offer any insight as to why such large fluctuations could be seen?

This is because Noddle just make them up on a month to month basis. I challenge them to provide any evidence whatsoever that they don't just have an intern smacking their face against a number pad to choose people's score for every month, because that's about how reliable and accurate they seem.
FWIW my score does exactly the same, in the 6 months or so i've been registered my score can be anything from 3/5 to 5/5 (and not gradual changes up or down, it will often as not literally go from 3/5 to 5/5 or vice versa) with no changes to my personal or financial circumstances.
  • HA! Love that description, I can just see him there now, Noddle's version of the random number generator.

In a way I suppose Noddle are trying to be too helpful. If they had just listed my accounts etc then I'd have been perfectly happy, but by trying to help further by giving me a rating, then screwing it up, I'm left feeling the service is a bit unreliable.

    less really can be more.

At least you don't getting ripped off for it by Experian or equifax
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Firstly, the scale is probably too small to accurately indicate the reason for the drop or increase - a move from what would be a 3.4 to 4.5 (e.g. 1.1 would look like a 2 point jump).

Nobody knows what Noddle users to calculate their scores and it would even be that they are constantly refining (changing) the way it is calculated.

As a guess, it might be a big balance that dropped of your account or some payment history that changed or your total credit balance or available credit changed. It might be that they add some extra points if you've had a credit card for 24 months and this might have been month 24. So lots to speculate on, so little information.

As I said, the scale is really too small and we don't even know if they change their criteria month to month...
  • My rating appears to be going up everywhere else but on Noddle over the last few months it has gone from 4/5 to 3/5 and now today 2/5 :D
