Vodafone & Iphone5

I purchased an iphone5 on a 2yr contract on 18/09/12 - it has now gone wrong and after a free apple diagnostic uplink it has revealed a power software problem. The phone will not recognise a charge with an icon although will take a charge very, very slowly. It won't charge above 46% and because the lightening cable isn't recognised I can't back anything to itunes nor can I back up to icloud as it needs 50% battery!! It dies very quickly when in use so is of no use at all! Apple do not want to know as its outside their 12mth warranty. I have tried Vodafone with The Sale of Goods Act and a retailers responisibility to sell items that are fit for purpose but this is going nowhere fast. They have, so far, offered 25% toward the cost of the repair but have said nothing with regard to what happens if the phone cannot be repaired and a replacement is needed. I realise the phone is just out of warranty but surely an iphone5 should last longer than 13mths? I'm at a loss to know what to do next to further my cause, any help appreciated :0)

When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!
If a company fobs you off by saying “go to the maker instead”, it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.
It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with them.
