I wonder will beano be back?

Was also thinking you could be really flash and do it with a macro, but to code that would take me quite a while - maybe a day or more (or to put it another way, not something I'd do for free)
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

I still think this is better suited to a database, even Access. :)

Yes, it is - however even Access is powerful enough to get yourself into trouble if you don't understand what you're doing. Inner and outer left/right joins, etc. Get those wrong and blind trust in 'computer says' means you'll misreport. I've seen this even at huge megacorps with IT departments.

As others have said, give all the staff a unique number (payroll number).

Using INDIRECT and names would do it.

That's correct, it has D for Days, N for Nights and H for holiday

If these are the only values added on each sheet you could potentially do the whole year on just a single sheet (Dates down, Names across) then either add in some total/sub-total formulas or just use a Pivot Table.
  • Sorry i've been quiet for a few days, i've been off work.

I've not had chance to try any suggestions yet but i will report back.

Thanks for your help on this

The other option (which would make life a lot easier) would be to have one spreadsheet for the year, rather than 12 seperate ones.

You could then pivot table the whole lot and Bob would well and truly be your uncle.
