Hey Blue-moo! I totally agree with your philosophy.. I'm going to try and save up and do my wedding.. I'm lucky in that OH has an amazing job so we can afford a nice day but the main thing for us is how our guests enjoy the day..
My order of importance is church, food, band and dresses. We are in the lucky position of having a best friend as a wedding photographer so one less thing to worry about! I'm very very flexible about : cake (thinking m&s cheapest), transport (use family cars) and flowers (artifical maybe).. I think getting your priorities in line is a huge help..094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250

Hey BlueMoo
We're date twins!
We're having fresh flowers and from the various florists we met the prices varied between £50 and £100 for table centres. I'm sure you could scale it down, but given the number of tables you're having I think you'll struggle to get fresh within budget - bear in mind bouquets, pew ends, corsages, buttonholes etc too!
Can I ask why you're looking on eBay for your wedding rings? We managed to get ours in Hatton Garden for around £1k for platinum (admittedly we bartered with the jeweller, and it was the same place we bought my engagement ring so there was some goodwill there!), so if that's what you're after then worth trying there rather than getting second-hand.
We're having a band too and so had the same problem as you in that a band can only play for a certain length of time and needs breaks. Instead of having to fork out for a DJ, though, our band are happy to play DJ sets of songs chosen by us during this time (and they're staying until last guest leaves - last thing you want is a band packing up partway through the evening!) - could this be an option for you to save a few hundred quid?

Searching for rings at the moment on eBay, but no such luck so far. Most seem to be very worn/scratched.

just want to pick up on this for you....something that you might want to consider doing is speaking to a local independant jeweller who has either access to a workshop or someone who carries out repairs etc.
Surface scratches can be easily polished out of rings so in effect they look new...its not an expensive or particularly time consuming process and certainly something to consider if you are looking at the preloved rings on ebay.
Even with a ring that has been badly worn and is thinning all is not lost as it wouldnt take too much to restore it and would almost certainly be cheaper than buying good quality rings new.
you could also look at just buying some scrap gold and have it remodelled into your rings reasonably cost effectively.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
