hello,
after reading a few postings with so much excellent advice i have the courage to ask my question here as i previously felt there was no help.
my 18 year old applied to an International Foundation Programme inApril this year as he had GCEs from abroad. he was accepted and i applied for a students loan after asking SFE if he was eligible. their response was apply and we will consider his application.
they approved it in May 2013
we were ecstatic. he was two years behind his mates by schooling abroad and was not keen on a levels as this would delay him further. this way he gets a university based course with a guarantee of an undergraduate placement after a year.
off we went and dropped him during freshers week - i was so proud!
imagine the shock when after a few weeks his money did not come in and he went to admissions only to be told that the course he applied for is not eligible for students loan as it is not an undergraduate course and it will NOT be paid!
i am still reeling and not sure what to do. i have asked for an explanation from the University - they say they are investigating.
has anyone come across this before?

It happens, and it's correct. A standalone foundation course isn't eligible.
You'll most likely need to pay from your own funds if the university cannot provide guidance as to alternative funding methods.0
