Gas tarrif for elderly parent with no internet access

hello everyone, hopefully someone can help me with this problem. Last year my elderly mother had gas installed in her home. At the end of November her tarrif comes to an end and they have offered her another. How can I be sure that she is getting the best available deal. She does not have internet and would use the 'phone I suppose or just do nothing .
Is it possible that I could try and get her a deal on the internet or does she need to do it herself.we do not live at the same address if that has any bearing.
thanks

  • Yes, you can do it for her. Some will send her bills by email, but you can register your email address on her account and then pass them on to her. I have done this for several older relatives, never had a problem.
  • Op, I have just (last week) switched my 84 year old MIL onto the EDF Blue promise March 2015 tariff. They will operate this totally by post, which is what my MIL wanted ( no computer).
This tariff seems to be quite a good fixed one and as EDF yesterday pledged not to raise prices this year it may still be available at the end of November.

  • thanks everyone for your response.
I did talk this over with her a few days ago .She seemed to want to stay with British Gas .I think the reason for this is that she has a maintenance plan with them . I dont have gas myself so dont quite understand if this plan is for the 'infrastructure' and if she can buy her gas elsewhere and it wont make any difference to her maintenance plan as with other utilities.
Also ,older people just dont like change.

I presume she has one of the Homecare plans with BG, if so she can keep that and still switch to a different gas supplier.
  • Great ! thanks very much .now I'll go and try convincing her.

Good luck with that! My parents have the homecare with BG and are on standard variable with BG for gas and Eon for electricity. I was with them this weekend and did the maths for switch & fix with Dad - he just won't do a switch. He and Mum have always said they can't move from BG because of the Homecare agreement, but a) as you say that's completely separate from the fuel tariffs / suppliers, and b) he could go onto a better fix with BG anyway.

He just won't have it. Grr, so frustrating when you can show they can save money immediately and not pay an increased rate for years.
