Comparing unit prices of electricity
I just wanted some idea of how what potential saving is available by comparing electricity unit prices alone. A unit price used to be pretty easy to find from an energy supplier but is now something you have to delve into to get the answer.
My unit price (with NPower) is 15.69p currently, rising to 17.23p (9.8% rise) on December 1st.
N.B The 'daily standing charge' has been set at '0.00p' so please bear the standing charge (if any) in mind.
Thank you.

The best unit prices for single rate electricity are around 11-12p. You'll have to work out for yourself whether these are better for you once the standing charge has been taken into account.0

And yes, 11p/kWh is about the cheapest you'll find these days but of course that comes with higher standing charges.0 -
Possibly deliberately, with the spread of standing charge tariffs actual unit prices have been more and more difficult to directly compare. All one can do is to take a consumption figure (say 3,500 kWh) and work out the total cost for this to be consumed over a year. A valid comparison can then be made between suppliers.
To state the obvious if you feel the need to know the effective unit price in pence per unit it can then easily be calculated by multiplying the annual cost by 100 and dividing by 3,500.0 -
The price isn't just the unit price - its the standing charge, payment method discounts, dual fuel discounts and online discounts too. You should use a comparison site with kWh to find the best price taking all these factors into account.0

My annual estimated consumption is more like 1300 than 3500 KWh. That makes any standing charge more difficult to pass off over lower ('headline') unit prices.
What are the relevant charges on that fixed price deal mentioned?

That is very good going. I reduced my electricity usage from about 21 units a day to 12 and thought I was doing well. My house uses 5 when there is nobody in it!0
