contacting DVLA
I was advised by a recent car hire company (at same time conference call with DVLA for verification) that I should update my driving license with newer photo.
Also for some reason there are restrictions on my license from used to wearing glasses in younger days, hence I need to call DVLA to ask if these can be removed (don't wear glasses to drive)
anyone advise what is the best DVLA no to call?
quick search only brought up premium phone numbers.

What is the expiry date of your photocard, has it actually expired?
You could try searching on Say No to 0870 to find a landline number for DVLA.

I got years left on my license...but was advised that I should get it updated to remove this restriction due to "optical aids"..
Your licence has two expiry dates. The first one is the expiry of the licence which is on the back of the photocard and the second is the expiry date of the photocard which is on the front and is listed under 4b.
Do you have a code "01" listed anywhere on your licence? This is the code for eyesight correction."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

01 listed on reverse of card!
phoned DVLA on 0300 790 6801 got through straight away...."01" does not restrict me but I can be asked questions on it...so I can update this online using passport no as proof!

Those are your licence categories. There should be three columns next to them with the third column possibly having some codes listed in them. You can find out what the codes relate to (if you have any listed) at this site:-
