SOGA or managers discretion

Bought a luxury down filled quilt on Monday from TJHughes, reduced in their sale from £70 to £35, made the bed up expecting the best nights sleep we have ever had only to find that the quilt rustles every time we move, it's like sleeping inside a chrisp bag and neither of us have slept soundly since Monday night. I called TJ's to see about returning it but was told that its not company policy to take back opened bedding and its at their managers discretion if they will refund us but my thinking is that I should be able to return it under SOGA as its not fit for purpose ie we can't sleep with it on the bed (I'm sure that's the purpose of a quilt). Any thoughts please.

I would say that although you do not like the noise, it is still fit for purpose (i.e. it is to keep you warm at night).
My quilt is does rustle quite a bit too - however it does not affect my sleep. If I was you I would go to somewhere that has display ones so that you can test it out. However, I think you are at the mercy of the store on whether they accept the return or not.0 -
I know what sound you mean and it should lessen/ soften with wear, most premium quilts have this type of covering. I would agree with OlliesDad that it is still fit for purpose, so any refund would be on a goodwill basis.0

Down filled, cotton covered duvets rustle when they're new, they soften up with use, but that doesn't make them not fit for purpose.
If you have a tumble drier, try bunging it in that on cool for a short time, that should soften the covering.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Ooh, I love the rustle of a new down-filled duvet. Are you really truly being woken up by a duvet? Are you sure that you're not just a bit hypersensitive? You noticed the duvet is a bit noisier than the previous one so it's affecting your sleep because you're convinced it will wake you."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

You're probably right but it is noisy. I'm going to see how it goes for a bit and if it oftens up with time and wear, if not il just put it onto the spare bed and suck it up and buy a new one.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

It'll quieten down - my new one was the same. Now lovely and quiet 3 months later.0
