Delonghi Coffee Machine failed from Amazon

Options
Hi there, I bought a Delonghi Magnifica coffee machine from Amazon.co.uk 14 months ago (2 months out of warranty). A couple of months ago the steam nozzle knob broke so I bought a replacement and fitted it. A couple of weeks ago the actual steam valve the knob connects onto broke. This renders it useless as its part of the steam unit I can't just replace the knob. I contacted Delonghi who have ignored the email and contacted Amazon who state as its out of warranty theres nothing they can do. After stating the Sale of Goods Act they offered me £25 as a goodwill gesture. I replied stating that as the machine was close to £400 when I bought it that £25 was an insult so they added another £20. As this still won't fix the machine I replied stating this too was unsatisfactory and asked for it to be repaired and was told that the cash offer was all they could do. Is this really where I stand? This is a common problem with the machine I even sent a link to Amazon's own reviews in the email stating their own customers with the same issue. I also mentioned the EU regulation of a 2 year warranty as Amazon.co.uk are based in luxemburg but that was ignored Any help appreciated on this
Thanks

You say that £45 won't be enough to fix it. Do you have quotes for a repair then?

  • Yeah I was quoted £155 for the repair by an official Delonghi repair centre. Sorry I should've added that.

To claim via the SOGA channels you would need to prove that the fault was there when you recieved the item as you've had the item longer than 6 months.

If you got an engineers report to prove it was a manufacturing flaw / issue and not caused by wear and tear or damage you should have a case. It might still take court proceedings though to force them to achknowledge this.

If it was me, i'd put it down to a bad experience, take the good will gesture and get it repaired with the rest out my own pocket.

If you can persuade them to add that the fault is an inherent one, i.e. not caused by misuse or expected wear and tear, send a copy of the quote to Amazon and ask that they reconsider and meet the costs of the repair.
