Hi, I bought two 7-inch tablets last Christmas for the kids for around, just generic Chinese ones. They still love them and they're working very well - daily use for BBC iPlayer mainly and games from the app store. Can't fault them really. You get the odd one that doesn't work but that can happen with any brand.
The ones out this year seem to be even better as most come with dual core processors and better screens. My criteria when looking for one would be: make sure the company you're buying from is UK based (for returns and suchlike); buy the highest screen resolution you can afford (for a 7-inch 800x400 minimum but I'd always look for higher than this); get a dual-core processor at least with the most up to date Android version possible (Android 4.x.x not 2.x.x). Internal storage level is not so important if you're not going to be storing loads of music, videos, etc.
Hope this helps

Hudle from Tesco has to be considered .

If you want something at £40 - 50. Carphonewarehouse has one with £49 right now. The spec didn't say which processor it use, but I would guess it is single core A13. This would be similar with those £40 at amazon.
With your ~ £70 budget each, you can consider Sumvision Cyclone Voyager Tablet 7"
It has dual core processor and 1GB RAM0 -
Generally speaking the more you spend the more you get for your money - a £40 tablet is likely to have a very low res screen and a slow processor. That said -if you are looking for something simply to browse the internet the cheap ones are perfect!0

If you have any Tesco Clubcard vouchers then the Hudl falls in your budget...0
