First equifax report

Hi all,

Just got my first equifax report and score. Showed up a few things Im a bit worried about as I am saving for a mortgage with my girlfriend and now Im starting to wonder if an application will be granted.

Everything came back as excellent except:

1.
You have 3 active accounts and 5 settled accounts on file at your current address. Credit grantors prefer that you have at least one or two accounts as part of your credit profile. Active accounts are preferred to settled accounts.

Thats 1 x 02 contract, 1 x barclays account, 1 x barclay card account

I use my credit card for paying for diesel and a few other bits and bobs and pay it off on my phone banking literally straight away so thats good isnt it?

2.
Your payment history shows that you have previously been 1 month in arrears. While you haven't been significantly overdue in making payments, some credit grantors may not grant you credit if you have other risk signals present on your credit report.

This was a late payment in March 2010, will it still have much of an effect?

3.
Electoral roll came back as good, I cant make that excellent can I?

My score is 453, which is supposedly above the UK average so I guess I can be happy with that. Although I'd obviously prefer it to be in the excellent band... I just dont know what more I can do to get it there as I thought Im doing well. Any input will be very gratefully received by me and my partner!!!!

EDIT: Just checked my noddle rating out, its 4/5!!

    1. It's saying creditors prefer at least 2 active accounts, and you have 3 active accounts, so nothing to worry about there.

    2. One late payment back in 2010 is unlikely to cause a huge problem.

    3. Ignore the scores; lenders don't get to see them and will score you internally on their own criteria.

Check all three credit reports for a full picture.

  • Thats good to know thanks! Regarding improving my likelihood of being approved a mortgage though, is there anything I can be doing to help myself out? I use about £200 out of my £1500 credit card a month that like I said I immediately pay off. Should I do anymore than just regularly use this card?
