That way, I know I'm covered.
Well you could ask them to explain *exactly* what their 7 day insurance covers while you're thereand if it's not good enough or if they can't arrange it there and then, then just swap yours.
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
BMW offer 7 days fully comprehensive cover including business use, with a relatively small excess.0

If the car is pre-taxed that's fine but if not the dealer will need more than a phone call to get it taxed0 -
I was offered this when I was buying my second hand car. I phoned up before I did the final paperwork for the car. There are exceptions and my husbands occupation was deemed high risk and they could only insure me so I said it was no use so made my own arrangements through my usual insurer before picking up the car. I was quite annoyed as the dealer had made such a song and dance about this insurance but it just wasn't suitable for us. If you have a relatively run of the mill job, etc it will be fine that's why they would insure me. Have to say my hubby was not happy!
I had to phone to activate the 7 days insurance as they needed a policy number and document in advance so they could get the tax disc for me, that's when I discovered it was no use for me.0 -

I've bought cars, where the dealer has managed to tax it, on their dealer's insurance, prior to me collecting it.
Not sure how they managed it, and didn't ask.
As it happens, the one I'm going to look at is taxed, all the way though to the end of June next year. :cool:0 -

Once you have filled in the V5C (and what dealers is going to let you run up FPNs in his/her name?) the vehicle has moved into your possession, so the dealer's Trade Insurance won't cover you.0 -
Lots of Car Auctions used to offer a 7 day driveaway policy but you couldn't use it to tax a car when i used it. Though this may have changed.
They provided it 4 yrs ago at CarGiant when we bought the wifes Clio.
It is simply a marketing tool.
If they can convert 25% of those that take up the offer i suspect it will work out fairly profitable.
Norwich Union used to be relatively pushy i trying to get you to take out a policy there and then.
At Aston Barclay is Chelmsford they used to have a specific free phone but that is gone now.
The few times i used it the only cover available was Full Comp0 -

Very easy to tax a car using traders insurance.
I did it many times when i had traders insurance as i liked to have the cars i sold taxed as they woukd sell easier usually and i could use them as and when i needed to and it saved me bothering with trade plates.
I used to buy a car at auction. Take the paperwork with me, drive home snd leave my car then get a lift back to the auction with tax disc in hand.0 -

In my experience drive awaway insurance was literally test drive insurance.
Well it was a dealer who I'm acquaintend with, he said if you get stopped by police or an in an accident just tell the police you are test driving.
So after I paid, I "test drove" the car home and got insurance with my provider from then on.
"Test drive" coversge is just that coverage whilst test driving the vehicle.
One stipulation is that you need to be accompanied during the test drive.
I have never heard of any traders policy that allows unaccompanied test drives as it would then allow anybody to drive uninsured that had a friend who has traders insurance.
This has always been the case as far as i know. There was even a clip on one of those Road Wars programmes years ago whensl somebody was caught out in this way and that episode must be 8/10 yrs old now.0
