Where to buy cheap energy efficient light bulbs?
I am looking to replace about 10 old light bulbs all of which range from 60 to 100W (!) with more energy efficient ones. Where is a good place to buy these from and what is a reasonable price to pay per bulb? I can't seem to find them much cheaper than £4 per bulb which seems a bit pricey to me.

If the bulb is used for 6 hours a day with a 100 W bulb that is 219 kWh per year! At 13p per kWh that is £28.47. An 11 W energy saving bulb uses 24 kWh or just over £3.
Yes, you may be annoyed by the lack of greenwashed subsidised bulbs but the payback of even a full price bulb is in weeks or months, not years.0 -
Not annoyed in any way at the lack of a subsidy personally. It has been a while since I needed to buy bulbs so would like to know what a reasonable price is.
Aware of the figures already hence why I'll be buying new bulbs. I just moved to a new house and am looking to replace a load of bulbs in one go so thought I'd ask to see if there are any multi-buy discounts going which I've not found.0 -
Far better to pay for quality than go cheap. We had some Ikea bulbs which lasted for at least 15 years. A couple failed so we replaced them with cheap made in china FSL brand and both failed within a year.0

LED bulbs are more efficient than cfl s Amazon have loads, and I have bought the odd one from Asda and Ikea. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

LED's are far superior light wise to CFL's but are more expensive so you have to offset the savings against the purchase price.
There are plenty of cheap ones on Ebay but are of questionable quality and safety. I bought two 3w LED bulbs from China, one failed but one is still going, I use it as an outside light and has run 24/7 for three or more years.0 -
I remember when a few years ago supermarkets were selling energy saving bulbs really cheap, like 5 or 6 for £1.00!
Now they seem to be £3.15 each!
Has anyone found any at a more reasonable price?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -
Thats when the EU was subsidising them, try Ikea. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Replacing all of your bulbs is a great energy saver, especially if you still have 100 W bulbs. I've only ever bought standard CFLs (Philips I think) and not el-cheapo ones, but I haven't had one blow or die yet, and even the more expensive ones pay for themselves very quickly.0

Install the B&Q phone app and you'll qualify for 3 for 2 on all bulbs there. The offer is good for a few more days yet.0
