Hi -I'm looking for some ideas. It's my friends birthday soon, and she is into card making. She seems to have a lot of supplies, but I was thinking of putting together a gift hamper of crafting bits for her.

So far, I've seen a nice book with ideas for pop-up cards, but was wondering what sort of supplies can you not have enough of!

Good quality double-sized tape/glues/sticky dots (basically whatever adhesives she uses). I am sure she gets through tons and they are not that cheap to buy.

Does she use card blanks or make them for scratch? If she buys card blanks a pack of those might go down well.
  • Depending on the sort of amount you want to spend ...

If she has a die cutting machine (Big Shot; Cuttlebug; Joy Trouvaille; Grand Calibur, etc etc) a die or embossing folder which she's longing for would be very welcomed, but you'd have to do a bit of sneaky chatting and digging to find out what she's got or what she's got on a 'wish list' so that you buy the right thing.

Ribbons .. or a ribbon box with holes in where the ribbons pop out. If you want to buy ribbons but are still in the 'basket of goodies' mode, then you could buy a yard/metre of some really great ribbons from various places. Hobbycraft have some ribbons with words on them - which would be lovely for both card making and scrapbooking.

Background Stamps (if she's a stamper). Perhaps one(s) which add a look of 'texture' to a background - like a honeycomb stamp or maybe one which suggests hessian; perhaps chicken wire or maybe a 'crackle' background. Or even a stamp for a season - Autumn - of say oak leaves or acorns. (The only ones I wouldn't buy are Christmas stamps as they limit the time they can be used).

Does she have any Cosmic Shimmer Gilding Flakes? I longed for these what seemed like all my life, but I always needed to get something else with my 'crafting pocket money' so never got to buy them .. until recently. You can buy two big 200ml pots of different colours of flakes and a bottle of the Cosmic Shimmer glue which is the thing used with them, for £13.99 from Create & Craft (link: http://www.createandcraft.tv/Cosmic_Shimmer_Gilding_Flakes_-_Red_Speckle_and_Verdigris_Fl_293110.aspx?fh_location=//createandcraft/en_GB/$s=cosmic shimmer flakes ) but shop around in case you can find a better deal. (have to admit that I shopped around before I bought mine and couldn't better the price for what you get for your money). The pots are the biggest I'd found for the price - but someone else might read this and have a better deal which they've found and could suggest for you to look at.

I could go on but I don't want to hog the ideas. :o

Do some 'private detective' spy activity and get her talking about her hobby to see if you can maybe have a peep at what she's already got so that you don't duplicate what she already has.

Hope this helps a little .. even if it gets you thinking in a different direction! ;) ~ TC x

Some wonderful ideas- thank you! I think I will need to take a few sneaky peeks at the type of things she has. I wanted to avoid duplicating something you only need one of, which is why I thought of supplies.
  • Hello! I'm currently selling off asome brand new Kanban items from my vaaaaast stash - Kanban were a GORGEOUS card making company that went bust in March. I stocked up on LOADS of stuff but now need to sell some of it as I've started my PhD and don't have much time for crafting anymore =[ I'm doing Lucky Dip boxes of 100 items for £15 inc postage - contents include cardstock, paper, envelopes, inserts etc. Might be worth finding out if she's a fan of the company or something :) also, people are doing similar job lotty type things of new items on FB, might be worth a peep :)
  • I did something similar for my sisters birthday, I gave her a parcel with some stamps, a bow maker, a quilling board, some ribbons and a couple of inkpads.

My idea of the perfect card-making hamper is probably very boring for the gift giver :D Printer paper (A4 and A5 please :D ), white A4 card, rolls (and rolls and rolls!) of double-sided tape, and sticky foam pads.
    Bulletproof
  • I'm a crafter and would love a Really Useful Box (or other storage box), with a good brand of double sided tape (the red super sticky stuff is good), Stix2 foam pads, good quality pack of cards (white or kraft coloured), Stickles glitter glue in an ice type colour, quickie gluepen, perhaps a gift voucher (either an online company or Hobbycraft to spend in the sales after Christmas), make up an fancy jar of your old or odd buttons (lots of craft uses for buttons), same with charms and lengths of ribbon:xmastree:
