  • Everything about the Baby P scandal stinks; the abuse of a child, the devious attempts to hide it by the mother, the repeated failure of social services to act, the failure of the Head of those services to take the responsibility for which they were handsomely paid, the tabloid witch-hunt, the craven kow-towing to lynch mob mentality exhibited by Balls, the colossal waste of taxpayers' cash......a sorry state of affairs from start to finish.

I'd like there to be a review of the job description of every 6 figure publicly funded senior position. If it doesn't include a clear line of responsibility, then it should be scrapped. My line manager is paid more than me because the buck stops with him- I thought that's how it worked?

It appears that in this case there were a large number of failures leading to the death of the child. That would point to poor management rather than just a one off mistake.

And yet I understand that the Inspectorate report for Haringey social services was positive (can't remember for sure how recent it was before the Baby P case arose but I *think* it was relatively recent).
